NATO summit seeks return to gravitas with Joe Biden

President Biden is traveling overseas this week on his first global diplomacy trip since taking office. Can he rally the world's democracies to meet the expansive challenges of today? "I've been clear: the United States will respond in a robust and meaningful way if the Russian government engages in harmful activities".

The president will first attend the G7 summit in Cornwall.

Biden is expected to meet British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Britain's southwestern resort of Carbis Bay in Cornwall where leaders from Britain, U.S., Canada, Japan, Germany, France and Italy, plus European Union, will gather Friday for the first in-person G7 summit in nearly two years.

The Geneva summit will see Putin and Biden meet in person for the first time since Biden's inauguration.

Among the main items Biden plans to address with allies are climate change, trade and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"To all you airmen and soldiers, I want to say, thank you".

Speaking on CBS, Psaki predicted a candid conversation and noted the two leaders have a lot of disagreements, while also citing areas where we can work together such as on issues like the Iran nuclear deal and disarmament.

In contrast, Biden, in early phone conversations with Putin, has bluntly told the Russian leader the US holds the Kremlin responsible for election interference, a massive cyberattack on USA government agencies and the poisoning of Putin opponent Alexey Navalny.

When asked if he would reach an agreement with Putin on cyberattacks, Biden did not make any commitments. Across 16 countries, a median of just 17 percent said American democracy served as a good example for other nations, compared with 57 percent who said it was a model in the past.
