Ontario reports 663 COVID cases, lowest in seven months

Over 3,380 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, the Union health and family welfare ministry said.

Continuing with the downward trend, India during the last 24 hours, recorded 1.20 lakh COVID-19 cases, which is the lowest one-day spike the country has recorded in the last almost two months.

The fatalities witnessed a spike, crossing 3,000 mark on Saturday once again after recording over 2,000 deaths in the last two days, the Times of India newspaper said. Peel Region is reporting 112 new cases while just 47 new infections were added in York Region. The national recovery rate has now increased to 93.67%. So far, more than 2.69 crore persons have recovered from the COVID-19 infection. Also, 20,36,311 tests were conducted on June 5 taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 36,47,46,522, while the daily positivity has further declined to 5.62%.

As of Saturday evening, 9,992,575 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, including 158,393 doses given Saturday.

With the fresh cases, the total tally of coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 2,88,09,339.

Declining case counts and hospitalizations in recent weeks has prompted to the province to take a look at reopening patios and shuttered businesses a little earlier than expected.

The Ministry of Health says 545 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 510 patients in intensive care and 344 on a ventilator.

Another 10 virus-related deaths were confirmed today, bringing Ontario's COVID-19 death toll to 8,854.
