Over half of adult Americans now fully vaccinated, Biden says

"Take at least five actions to help in June, and you might even be invited to visit us at the White House in July to celebrate independence together", Biden teased toward the end of his remarks.

Biden cited the Budweiser promotion as one more reason for younger adults to get vaccinated, even if they faced a lower chance of dying from the coronavirus. Free beer is the latest White House-backed incentive for Americans to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

As part of its "Let's Grab a Beer" initiative, the company will give Americans of legal drinking age a free beer when the USA reaches the White House's benchmark of 70% of adults partially vaccinated by July 4.

To make it easier for Americans to get inoculated against COVID-19, four of the country's largest child care providers - KinderCare, Learning Care Group, YMCAs and Bright Horizons - will provide free child care to parents and caregivers getting their shots or recovering from side effects, the White House announced. "Matter of fact, the first vaccines were authorized under a Republican president and widely developed by a Democratic president - deployed by a Democratic president", he said.

Biden will also announce that he is assigning Vice President Kamala Harris to lead a "We Can Do This" vaccination tour to encourage shots. "That's right. Get a shot and have a beer". Harris will travel to the South, while first lady Dr. Jill Biden, second gentleman Doug Emhoff and other Cabinet members will head to communities across the country. The offer period begins when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determines 70% of adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, and it extends until midnight on the seventh day following that date or until all rewards have been given, "whichever comes first", per the beer maker.

Government officials, faith leaders, celebrities, and other officials will join the vaccination campaign. The rate of new vaccinations has slowed to an average below 600,000 per day, down from more than 800,000 when incentives like lotteries were announced, and down from a peak of almost 2 million per day in early April when demand for shots was much higher.

"All over the world people are desperate to get a shot that every American can get at their neighborhood drugstore", Biden said.

Despite the promise of plane tickets and gift cards, among other perks, Biden's remarks also come as the pace of vaccinations slow in the U.S. In the last week, the country saw a 30% decrease in doses administered per day. "Do it to protect those more vulnerable than you", he said. America's mayors are joining the effort by launching a competition to see which city can grow its vaccination rate the most by July Fourth.

Still, the move builds on other public and private-sector partnerships the White House has formed with the goal of ramping up vaccinations and combatting vaccine hesitancy. CVS launched a sweepstakes with prizes including free cruises and Super Bowl tickets. And Kroger will give $1 million to a vaccinated person each week this month and dozens of people free groceries for the year. The company says it will hand out credits to however many people qualify.
