State AGs Voice Opposition to Biden’s Nominee for ATF Director

The National Shooting Sports Foundation's Mark Olivia talked to Breitbart News about Chipman on Tuesday, describing him as "a bought and paid-for gun control lobbyist who is still drawing a paycheck from Giffords gun control group".

"The Second Amendment is the cornerstone of the Bill of Rights", the AGs wrote.

President Joe Biden first nominated David Chipman in April, citing the nominee's tenure at the ATF as qualification enough to assume the rare director position.

The AGs wrote that the right to bear arms in their states is more than just a hobby or sport. It is critical that all members of the firearm and ammunition industry, as well as supporters of the Second Amendment, contact their USA senators and urge them to oppose Chipman's nomination to be Director of ATF, including for the numerous reasons highlighted here.

Chipman is a former ATF agent and spent years as a Gabby Giffords' gun control affiliate.

If confirmed, Chipman would return to the agency where he worked for over two decades as a special agent. "Right now there is no such ban on those guns".

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) speaks in Washington on June 2, 2020.

Yet Chipman's responses during the confirmation hearing got even more ominous for American gun owners. Whitehouse asked you if any of your views on guns are out of step with a majority of the American people. "How does this reflect the careful, measured judgment of one who would be in charge of enforcing our nation's gun laws?" "Given Mr. Chipman's history of anti-gun lobbying and political activism, Americans can not be reasonably expected to believe he will be an unbiased enforcer of current laws".

WBUR reports Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen.

After leaving the ATF in 2012, Chipman became a senior adviser at Everytown for Gun Safety, and later as a senior policy adviser at Giffords. "The job of the ATF director is to enforce the laws that Congress passes ... not to promote failed gun policies".

The ATF, in one program, "defined an assault rifle as any semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a detachable magazine above the caliber of.22, which would include a.223, which is largely the AR-15 round", Chipman explained.

Almost 70 House Republicans have warned their Senate colleagues to oppose Chipman's nomination, describing him as an "enemy of the Second Amendment".

The AGs concluded their letter by asking the senators to oppose Chipman's nomination, saying that they "demand President Biden nominate someone who is not hostile to our rights and way of life".

It is critical that David Chipman's nomination to be Director of ATF is defeated.
