It is another sad day on the COVID-19 front in Saskatchewan as four more people have died.

The six deaths include one person in their 60s and five people above the age of 80. One new death in the 80-plus age group was reported in the Far North East zone.

Saskatchewan now has the highest reported rate of known active cases in Canada and the highest seven-day rolling average of new cases among Canadian jurisdictions, according to Health Canada, and chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said last week that he may have to recommend new measures to slow the spread if they do not fall.

A total of 16,078 individuals have recovered and 4,265 cases are considered active.

The new cases are located in the Saskatoon (55), Far North West (45), North West (41), North East (33), Regina (25), Far North East (20), North Central (13), Far North Central (12), Central East (10), South East (7), South Central (5), South West (2), and Central West (1) zones.

A total of 24,575 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the province. This brings the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 22,618.

The Ministry of Health said there are 210 people in hospital, matching the province's highest total so far. One hundred and eighty people are receiving inpatient care: Far North West (seven), Far North Central (one), North West (13), North Central (24), North East (10), Saskatoon (61), Central West (one), Central East (eight), Regina (42), South West (one), South Central (one) and South East (11).

There were 142 recoveries reported, increasing that total to date to 16,078.
