Tesla Commences India Operations, Registers As Company In Bengaluru

In November last year, replying to a Twitter user who asked about the progress of the company's India plans, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had said, "Yea.Next year for sure".

According to documents available, Tesla, the world's most valued auto maker, has registered with the Registrar of Companies on January 8. According to the details available on the Registrar of Companies website, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited has been incorporated and the registered address is in Lavelle Road, Bengaluru.

The electric vehicle giant was incorporated as a subsidiary of the foreign holding company in Bengaluru, Karnataka on January 08, 2021, with authorised capital of INR 15 Lakh and a paid-up capital of INR 1 Lakh.

The other two directors are Venkatrangam Sreeram - who is now a director for two auto companies, Xenon and ClearQuote, which deals with automated vehicle inspections, Teslarati reports. This can be an inflection point for electric mobility in India and might convince many prospective customers to consider buying an EV in the future. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Tesla is in talks with five state governments to commence operations in India.

Tesla's expected entry comes at a time when the Union and state governments are encouraging higher adoption of green vehicle technologies to help reduce air pollution.

In 2018, Musk had cited the country's challenging regulatory environment as among the reasons for not foraying into India.

The Karnataka government has already proposed a list of locations, Tumkur being one, to Tesla for setting up its manufacturing facility.
