Hailie Deegan Ordered to Undergo Sensitivity Training

Prior to the start of the 2021 season, NASCAR will require Deegan to take sensitivity training.

Deegan immediately exclaimed: "Hey, who's the (slur) behind me?"

The 19-year-old was playing iRacing - a popular racing simulation that is sometimes played and broadcast live by professional drivers - on Sunday night, and used the word when she was bumped into by another vehicle.

Deegan added, "There's no excuse for it, and I know I have to do better for my sponsors and my fans".

NASCAR announced no other sanctions against Deegan.

'We are aware of this inappropriate comment, ' the automaker said via NBC Sports. Deegan and Gracie Trotter - who won her first race in 2020 in the ARCA West Series - are the only women to win races at any of NASCAR's top five levels.

She began her career in NASCAR in 2018 what is now the ARCA Series West.

Her use of that slur comes less than a year after Cup Series star Kyle Larson used the N-word in a virtual race in April 2020. She'll drive for David Gilliland Racing.

Deegan - who's scheduled to drive full-time in NASCAR's Truck Series in 2021 - was streaming on Twitch when another driver appeared to nudge her virtual vehicle during the video game race. That got him fired from Chip Ganassi Racing. That set a record for highest finish by a female driver in her Truck Series debut.
