The reports said, while Houston Durgabari Puja, US, the nerve centre of North America Pujas, will be held inside the temple and no outsider will be allowed, the Puja will be a muted affair at Bharat Samity, Germany, with organisers conducting only 'ghot puja'.

Large idols of Goddess Durga, flowers, colors, drum beats, sanskrit scripture and delicious food - Durga Puja is one of India's widely celebrated festivals, especially in West Bengal. "During festivities, we are seeing that people are not paying attention to Covid protocols but whoever will come here at this pandal, we are telling to wear masks and maintain social distancing to keep Coronavirus at bay", said Sashwat Basu, puja committee member.

The prime minister recalled the contributions of reformers from Bengal like Ram Mohan Roy and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, spiritual leaders Ramkrishna Paramhans and Swami Vivekananda, cultural giant Rabindranath Tagore, and revolutionaries like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Khudiram Bose in shaping India's national identity. He also spoke about his government's relentless efforts to empower women. "Over 90 lakh free gas connections given under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana", PM Modi also added in his address. BJP has already made political inroads into West Bengal, a state where it has not been strong traditionally.

We have to move forward with the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas, the prime minister asserted. The BJP had made elaborate arrangements for live viewing of the prime minister's virtual address from New Delhi.

West Bengal will be celebrating Durga amidst a pandemic and hence this year will be slightly different from other years.

The event was televised live at over 78,000 polling booths across West Bengal's 294 assembly constituencies.

In the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 18 seats while the TMC got 22 seats. "The names of the ten pandals are yet to be finalized", PTI quoted BJP state vice-president Partap Banerjee.
