Amazon offers work from home option to employees until June 2021

CNBC on Tuesday confirmed that Amazon will allow employees who can work from home until June 2021. The Amazon spokesperson said in a Tuesday e-mail statement that the guidelines were added globally.

This way Amazon followed the trend of several tech companies which have already extended their work from home policies until at least early 2021.

The development comes less than three weeks after the world's largest online retailer said more than 19,000 of its USA frontline workers contracted the coronavirus this year.

While Twitter in May told its workers that they can continue work from forever if their roles permit, Google later said it would allow its employees to work from home till the middle of next year.

To compile this year's list, Forbes surveyed 160,000 employees from 750 companies in 58 countries around the world and asked them to rate their willingness to recommend their employers to friends and family.

In the recent months, employee unions alleged that the company put the health of its employees at risk with the opening its warehouses open even during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will done through physical elimination, deep cleaning, temperatures inspections and hand sanitising.

The move pushes back the deadline for Amazon corporate employees who have been working from home since March to return to work. Soon after this, in August, social networking giant Facebook announced an extension of remote working for its employees till the summer of 2021. Other big tech firms have also extended the work from home option for their employees with Microsoft saying earlier this month it will allow most employees to work remotely for up to half their weekly working hours.
