Man Utd trigger Pogba contract extension

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has no doubt Harry Maguire will "bounce back" from his England nightmare, but revealed injury could prevent Manchester United's captain from responding to that latest setback at Newcastle.

Pogba rejoined United from Juventus in a then world-record deal in 2016, but has been hampered by injuries and inconsistent form for much of his second spell in the Premier League.

The contract extension means that Real Madrid will be compelled to pay a few for the player next season if they pursue a transfer for the player that they have already earmarked a potential future "Galactico".

"We want to see the best for Paul and I'm sure, in the next couple of years, we'll get the best out of him".

This serves as a big sigh of relief for the Red Devils after Pogba seemingly hinted at wanting a new challenge somewhere else.

This has led to speculation that the Frenchman is once again unsettled at United and agitating for a move, perhaps the motivation for United opting to trigger the contract extension at this stage, as reported by The MEN.

"It's one of those things that you have to get over as soon as you can and move on", Solskjaer said.

During the global break, Pogba said a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid would be "a dream".

"It is a dream for me, why not one day?".

Meanwhile, the player is also having the backing of his team-mates at Old Trafford club. Pogba said in a news conference a week ago via Reuters.

Following their Tottenham Hotspur match earlier this month, he drew criticism for giving away a penalty in that 6-1 home loss. In 2019, United was willing to talk to the La Liga giants about a possible transfer.
