'Spider-Man 3' Spider-Verse Casting Rumors Not Confirmed By Sony

Today, ET Canada got a comment from a spokesperson from Sony that reads: "Those rumoured castings are not confirmed", They are hasty to note "the statement does not deny the casting buzz", only that it is not definite at this time.

It's beginning to look a lot more like the "multiverse" really is the next step for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The mid-credits sequence in Spider-Man: Far From Home also revealed that J.K. Simmons would return as J. Jonah Jameson, reprising his role from the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi. With revelations like Doctor Strange playing a role in the next Spider-Man film - now being referred to as Spider-Man 3, along with inclusions like Jamie Foxx's character Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it's incredibly exciting to see how far Marvel is willing to go with tying these separate Spidey franchises together.

One very interesting rumour that's been doing the rounds this week is the fact Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have reportedly signed up to play their respective versions of Peter Parker in the threequel.

Spider-Man 3 is now filming in NYC where fans have spotted Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jacob Batalon (Tom Holland is still apparently filming Uncharted), so the Spider-Man 3 title reveal might be coming to Jimmy Kimmel on Friday.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing alongside Amy Pascal, with production slated to begin later this month in Queens.

Spider-Man 3 has a December 17, 2021 release date directed by Jon Watts.
