New PlayStation Store Confirmed For Launch This Month Via Sony Email

Sony will gradually roll out the update on the PSN Store via web browser from October 21 to 26, and will roll it out to the mobile app on October 28.

Additionally, the Wishlist feature is being discontinued. It's another change being made to the PlayStation Network infrastructure as Sony gear up for the launch of the PlayStation 5 in November. You will still be able to buy PS3, PSP and PS Vita content directly from their respective stores, and PS4 apps, themes and avatars will be available via the PS4's built in PS Store. Sony assures in its email, though, that you won't be losing access to any games and digital content you've purchased in the past.

As development focus shifted to the PlayStation 4, optimising the PlayStation Store experience on previous platforms apparently became less of a priority. Similarly, accessing the store through a PS4 will surface apps, themes and avatars just like before.

I recently had a hell of a time buying Demon's Souls due to the atrocious, juddery performance of the PlayStation 3's store app, and while that's certainly anecdotal, it's a shame to know I'm now stuck with that experience if I should wish to buy further PS3 content.
