Joe Biden vows to end anti-transgeder Trump policies at town hall

Trump instructed the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by".

Since 2017, Trump has used his power of the presidency to reject the pro-transgender rules set by President Barack Obama.

A sweaty and often out of breath Trump floundered on his stool under the bright studio lights and accompanying Miami weather Thursday night.

At times, Trump sounded angry and irate as Guthrie grilled him over the details of his testing results, his failure to immediately condemn white supremacists and his trafficking of conspiracy theories. When the "Today" show co-host asked why, during his debate appearance last month, Trump would not denounce white supremacy, he interrupted her. More than merely moderating questions from would-be voters in the audience, Guthrie was quick to offer relevant follow-ups and fact checks.

'Well, to be very honest with you, I think that's very hard, ' Biden replied when asked how he would use his platform to urge Trump and Trump's supporters 'toward the ideals of a more flawless union'.

Trump was defensive about his administration's handling of the coronavirus, which has claimed more than 215,000 American lives, and evasive when when pressed about whether he took a required COVID-19 test before his first debate with Biden.

Trump at times grew agitated with Guthrie during the 60-minute town hall event Thursday.

At one point she exclaimed, "I don't get it".

She said: "QAnon is a theory that Democrats are a Satanic paedophile ring & you are their saviour".

He replied: "I know nothing about QAnon".

"And what's happening is, too much transgender women of colour are being murdered, they're being murdered". "I owe a very, very small, it's called mortgages". Trump said he didn't know anything about them. This comes the same week that Attorney General Bill Barr admits that he can't deliver John Durham's report on the origins of the Russian Federation investigation before the election.

With only 19 days until the election, Trump is now running out of time to overtake Biden.

Clicking away to Biden on ABC offered quite the contrast.

The letter signed by more than 100 Hollywood figures said NBC was "enabling the president's bad behavior" while undercutting the debate commission and doing a disservice to the public. If you answer questions honestly, however, the opportunity for the Guthrie-sort of grilling vanishes.

The political scientist notes that "the audience members, by and large, were very open and receptive to both presidential candidates, Trump's audience seemed to really like him and Biden continued to answer questions after the town hall was over". That he stuck around and conducted an impromptu, unscripted Q&A further undermines the right-wing push to paint Biden as having dementia.

Trump showed himself to be a glib, shameless liar. Guthrie's grilling certainly played right into his "liberal" media complaints. Instead of keeping the focus on the voters who crafted their questions to help inform their voting decisions, Guthrie wedged herself into Trump's answers to keep her agenda front and center, pressing on issues Trump previously addressed such as his tax returns.
