Lucid Air reveals price and range for its cheapest EV

After the most recent price reductions of the Tesla Model S, Elon Musk just hinted that tonight it will go even lower to $69,420 (for the entry-level version). It's the sex number and the weed number.

The Tesla Model S is about to get a bit less expensive. Their price? $69.420. Why the extra digit? Those last three numbers referred to Musk's 2018 tweet about taking Tesla private at $420 a share, which ended up in a massive fine from the SEC and Musk being removed as Tesla chairman. It's amusing though, right?

Lucid does have one order-sheet advantage with the Air, so far: Its anticipated 406-mile EPA range is 4 miles above what the Model S Long Range now achieves for that price.

And while the base Air won't enter production until 2022 (higher grades enter production in 2021), the $69,420 Model S, in this case a Long Range Plus, is already in production.

Pricing and performance details have been announced for the entry-level Lucid Air set to hit the USA market in 2022. It marks the third time Tesla has lowered the starting price of the Model S in 2020, with the price starting off the year close to $80,000. However, the Model S Plaid was not changed from its starting price of $139,990.

Musk alluded to the new pricing being a jab at Lucid with a Twitter post announcing it, in which he said, "The gauntlet has been thrown down". Earlier this month, the carmaker cut the starting price of its Chinese-made Model 3 sedans by about 8% to 249,900 yuan ($36,805).
