Coronavirus: Five more deaths and 1,095 new cases in Ireland

Health officials have announced that a total of 549 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded over the long weekend.

Today's new cases represent the highest number reported in a single day to date.

BC now has 1,476 active cases, with 77 people in hospital, 24 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

There have been an additional ten new cases of Covid-19 in the Northern Health region, bringing the total to 341.

Figures released today show a slight decline in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Irish hospitals - down from 240 yesterday to 232 this afternoon. In total, 17 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and three acute-care facilities have active outbreaks.

There are 24 new positive COVID-19 cases in Saline County to report since the last update on Monday, October 12. People age 80 or older account for more than half of all COVID-19 fatalities in Clark County.

"If we all stay home when we are sick, get tested soon after symptom onset or when directed by Public Health, stay at least six feet from non-household members, wear a mask in public, cover coughs and sneezes, and avoid large gatherings and unnecessary travel, together we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community", she writes. However, there continue to be community exposure events at other locations and on flights into and out of the province. "In some cases, sport facilities have been closed", Doctor Henry explained.

Physical activity is very important to our overall health and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic, but equally important is the need to ensure we are staying active, safely.
