Raptors Sign Nick Nurse To Multi-Year Extension

"Nick has proved that he can coach on the court and lead in life, and we're looking forward to accomplishing great things in the future".

The Toronto Raptors came up just short of advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals when they lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games, but the team has shown they are committed to head coach Nick Nurse going forward.

A year ago he lead the Raptors to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history and topped it off with the team's first ever championship.

Since taking over as Toronto's lead coach, Nurse has compiled a 111-43 regular season record, as well as a 24-13 mark in the playoffs. Nurse's championship season with the Energy earned him G League Coach of the Year honours. Before that, Nurse famously coached all over the world, with stops in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy and across several collegiate and semi-professional levels in the United States.

The Raptors went 53-19 during the regular season, posting the second-best record in the league despite losing superstar Kawhi Leonard to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency after Toronto's run to the title previous year.

Nurse's contract was set to expire at the end of the 2020-2021 National Basketball Association season. Suddenly without one of the best individual defenders in the league, Leonard, and perennial sponge of high-leverage defensive assignments, Danny Green, Nurse constructed a versatile, aggressive defence that was even better than the previous season. He was named coach of the year during the first round of the playoffs. "I'm grateful to Masai, (GM) Bobby (Webster), and the players for their trust and their hard work". "Toronto has been my home for the past seven years, and I look forward to it being home for many more".

The Coach of the Year is staying North of the border.
