On Friday, federal officials had announced federal funding for testing sites that was to be cut off June 30 would be extended for 14 days, but on Sunday, Pence said, "We'll be extending that every bit as long as Texas wants us to".

"But about two weeks ago, something changed", Pence said, "and we wanted to get a report from you directly about that".

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump generally refused to wear a mask in public.

In the Texas state capital of Austin, a requirement to wear face coverings in some circumstances in order to help mitigate the spread of the virus led to demonstrations on the city's streets by people objecting to the measure.

Wearing mandatory masks, social distancing in lines and carrying their own pens to sign voting registers, French voters cast ballots in a second round of municipal elections. He ignored the question, saying instead, that people should "wear a mask".
