Amazon Prime movies gets their own Netflix Party for watching with friends

Watch Party requires the host and the participants to have Amazon Prime.

Amazon Prime Video is upping its game in the socially distanced streaming wars.

This week, Amazon is beginning to roll out the Watch Party feature on Prime Video for U.S. subscribers at no additional cost. Social events like going to movie theaters might not be an option right now, but that doesn't mean you can't watch a movie along with your favorite group of amateur film critics.

The Amazon Prime Video for Windows app, which was recently spotted in the Microsoft Store, is now available to download and use on Windows 10 devices. It is also now only available in the USA and only works on desktop browsers excluding Apple's Safari. The video watch party feature includes more than a thousand titles to choose from which users can enjoy with their gang.

Watch movies and TV shows recommended for you, including Amazon Originals like The Boys, Hunters, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, and much more. (Titles streaming through rent or purchase are unavailable for watch parties.) From there, attendees can watch in tandem and message one another in the service's chat room.

Watch Party hosts will have the ability to control the show or movie with synchronized playback, so that the content will pause or rewind for every participant at the same time.
