MediaTek launches new chipsets for budget gaming smartphones

The new MediaTek Helio G25 and Helio G35 budget chips aimed at low-priced gaming smartphones.

Helio G25 and G35 released technology HyperEngine responsible for the smooth change of icons at the screen and economical power consumption gadget. It gets an Imagination PowerVR GE8320 GPU operating at a maximum frequency of 650MHz.

These chipsets come just about two months after the Taiwanese chipmaker launched the Helio G85, a mid-range gaming chipset. The former is an entry-level processor featuring eight ARM Cortex A-53 CPU cores clocked at 2.0GHz.

MediaTek Helio G25 offers support for up to HD+ display of 100x720p resolution with 20:9 aspect ratio and the MediaTek Helio G355 offers support for FullHD+ display with 2400x1080p resolution of 20:9 aspect ratio. The MediaTek Helio G35 comes with a clock speed of up to 2.3GHz, while the MediaTek Helio G25 is loaded with a clock speed of up to 2GHz.

The Helio G35 is slightly better specced of the two. Its Imagination PowerVR GE8320 GPU is also clocked at 680MHz. This also applies to their single-camera support which maxes out at 25MP and 21MP respectively.

While both chips still able to support dual-camera setup, the G35 goes up to 13MP and 13MP combo but G25 is limited to 13MP and 8MP. Both the chipsets support 1080P video encoding (H.264) and playback (H.264, H.265/HEVC) at 30 fps. Integrated Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5 support simultaneous co-existence, aimed at significantly boosting throughput and connection reliability when using Wi-Fi and wireless peripherals, like headphones and gamepads. It also supports LPDDR4x RAM up to 6GB at 1600MHz and eMMC 5.1 for storage. Coming soon will be other gadgets on the basis of Helio G25 and G35.

Connectivity features include LTE Cat. The new MediaTek chipsets further support Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS, and QZSS navigation systems. They also feature MediaTek HyperEngine's intelligent power management that is said to make the smartphone deliver a long battery-life and be power efficient, even during long gaming sessions. Both MediaTek Helio G25 and G35 are based on 12nm FinFET production process.
