Kanye West drops new song, video from upcoming album

Kanye West has been watching what's going on in the world, and he has some characteristically complicated thoughts.

West has not released any music since last Christmas, when his Sunday Service Choir put out the 19-song collection Jesus Is Born, featuring gospel re-workings of West tracks, SWV's "Rain", and Ginuwine's "So Anxious", among others.

The visual was directed by Arthur Jafa, who has previously collaborated with West and shot videos for stars including Jay-Z and Solange.

"Wash Us in the Blood" is the first music from Ye since 2019's Jesus Is King, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, surpassing the Beatles and tying Eminem for the most consecutive No. 1 album debuts in chart history.

West, who explored his religious awakening on a pair of albums past year, continues in the new single to direct his thoughts toward God, asking to be washed in his blood. "Wash us in the blood / Whole life being thugs / No choice, sellin" drugs / Genocide, what it does / Mass incarc, what it does / "Cause a cause, what it does / "Nother life bein" lost". "Wash us in the blood of Jesus / Holy spirit come down / We need you now", he says.

This new song is set to appear on an upcoming album titled God's Country, which Kanye mentioned in an April 2020 interview with GQ.

I was thinking of not rapping again, because I rapped for the devil so long that I didn't even know how to rap for God.

Last week West announced that he'd formed a partnership with the Gap to sell his Yeezy line of apparel.
