UK: Virus-stricken Prime Minister Admitted to Hospital

Downing Street say the hospital admission is precutionary.

In his social media post on Friday, Johnson looked and sounded exhausted as he said: "Although I'm feeling better and I've done my seven days of isolation, alas I still have one of the symptoms, a minor symptom, I still have a temperature".

U.S. President Donald Trump has extended his well wishes to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was admitted to a hospital for further coronavirus tests after testing positive last month.

"The prime minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the government's advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives".

Dr Jarvis, who is not Johnson's doctor, added: "Given he is staying in charge of the Government, that suggests to me that he probably has moderate disease but that, as a precaution, he is being taken in to check the oxygen levels in his blood, to do X-rays and probably scans of his chest".

But Downing Street flatly denied that the prime minister's health had seriously deteriorated, and insisted there were no plans at that point for him to be admitted to hospital.

As of Monday morning, the United Kingdom has over 48,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and at least 4,940 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins.

Johnson's partner Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant with their child, also reportedly caught the virus, but is improving.

Hancock on Sunday described Johnson's condition as "OK" and said he had been in "good spirits".

"The more people follow the rules than the faster we will all be through this", he said.

On March 27, he became the first leader of a major power to announce he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Department of Health said there were now 47,806 positive cases, and 4,934 deaths.

In only her fourth address at a time of crisis in her 68-year reign, the queen said the outbreak could be defeated by a collective effort in a "common endeavor". He said that this behaviour could not go on.
