Lee Fierro, 'Jaws' Actress, Dies of Coronavirus Complications at 91

In the film, which many consider to be the first modern summer blockbuster, Fierro played the mother of Alex Kintner (Jeffrey Voorhees), the young boy who is killed by the great white shark while swimming on his yellow raft in the ocean.

Actress Lee Fierro, best known for her famous Jaws "slap scene", has reportedly died of complications from coronavirus.

Fierro reprised the role of Mrs. Kintner in 1987's Jaws: The Revenge. In the 1975 film, her son was attacked off the shore of Amity Island, and she walks up to police chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and slaps him in a memorable scene. She was pissed he let beachgoers hit the sand despite knowing there was a shark on the loose.

"I've watched her as a performer, director, and business woman, and then we became friends", Ryan continued.

She was 91 and passed away at an assisted living facility in OH, according to Variety.

Longtime friend Nicki Galland told the Martha's Vineyard Times: 'She was tickled by it. For over 40 years, she served various positions at the town's Island Theatre Workshop, including 25 years as artistic director. Fierro moved to OH in 2017 to be closer to her family.

A small, social distancing service is being planned by her family in OH and Lee will also be honored at a memorial service in Martha's Vineyard at a later date.
