'Law and Order: SVU' Season 21 Finale: Chris Meloni Returns as Stabler?

Meloni's character will reportedly be leading an NYPD organized crime unit. Meloni left Law and order: SVU after season 12.

Reportedly, Mariska Hargitay posted a message on Instagram wishing the actor a happy birthday and extending a warm welcome to the character he played on the long-running NBC procedural. Hargitay included the hashtags, #ItsBeenAWhile #MissedYou #ElliotStabler. Their venture had legions of dedicated fans, a few of whom have refused to see the series with no Stabler on the sequence.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Meloni was set to reprise his role as Stabler - nearly 10 years after he left SVU. While Meloni's show will be separate from Law & Order: SVU, it will be set and shot in NY, so viewers can expect to see Benson and Stabler together once again.

And since he is returning to the Law and Order universe, chances of a crossover are high. Throughout the interview, Meloni stated of their Benson and Stabler connection,"It has always been a enormous part of our connection and I believe a part of the achievement of this series".

"Hargitay explained their onscreen venture as" prompt ease, chemistry, and confidence, relaxation". It's been really hard over the years to see people leave and painful and scary. Or should I say "in-steed". People today come into our lives and they then depart their lifestyles. You feel all of that and it's a lot to feel and you keep on going. In the meantime, as Leight previously hinted, Episode 20 will now serve as the new, makeshift season finale (airing April 23), and it will be "oddly fine in that slot", he noted, since it boasts "return performances from many perps and [victims] we've met this season".
