"For the avoidance of doubt, and as you have been previously notified, Hobby Lobby is not a "critical business" and is not otherwise exempt from the (order's) requirements", the attorney general's office wrote.

"The stores will remain closed until further notice", the a statement on Hobby Lobby's website says.

While some major retailers, such as Patagonia, continued to pay their employees throughout coronavirus-related store closures, Hobby Lobby declined to do so.

Hobby Lobby is temporarily closing all of its stores across the country.

The company stated it will maintain medical, dental, life and long-term disability benefits for employees while furloughed through at least May 1, 2020, and will pay the cost of employee premiums for these benefits on behalf of employees while furloughed without pay. An employee in IN told Business Insider his manager said she will continue to work, though "has no idea why she will still be there" if stores are closed.

According to three employees, each speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, managers at their stores called teams into a meeting to deliver the news on Friday afternoon.

"I just want to make it clear to Hobby Lobby and anybody who is foolish enough to follow in their footsteps that in Dallas County (Texas), the government and 99.9 percent of the business community put public health over profits", Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said Thursday, according to WFAA. "My question was, did God tell them they needed to close the stores and not pay us?"
