Elton John to host coronavirus benefit concert with Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish

Elton John is set to host a television special raising funds and awareness for the battle against coronavirus.

They will star on a special edition of James Corden's Late Late Show.

"Shooting from James' garage may be far from flawless, but under the circumstances we hope it can help someone, somewhere, who needs some cheer right now", executive producers Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe said.

The commercial-free event will feature performances by Alicia Keys, Backstreet Boys, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw and others, all playing from their homes on their personal cell phones, cameras and audio equipment, to ensure the health and safety of all involved as Americans adapt to social distancing. Viewers will be encouraged to donate to Feeding America and First Responders Children's Foundation - two of the many organizations helping victims and first responders during the ongoing pandemic.

The special is aimed at paying tribute to health workers and those on the front lines of efforts to cope with the pandemic, which has overwhelmed hospitals.

Musicians have been quick to move online as USA states have issued shutdown and stay-at-home orders, with free performances filmed at home and streamed on social media from the likes of John Legend and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

The concert will air in the iHeartRadio Music Awards' original broadcast timeslot - Sunday, March 29, from 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. CDT on FOX6 - and on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide, as well as via the iHeartRadio app.
