Overwatch reveals Echo, the cutting edge in AI technology

Seven months after the release of its last new hero, Overwatch is finally getting a new one. It's pretty brief for an origin story, and starts with Echo's creator, Dr. Mina Liao, discussing Echo's creation. Echo, who players have been salivating over ever since she made her cinematic debut in the trailer that introduced Ashe, will be playable "soon".

Blizzard has officially revealed that the next hero to arrive in Overwatch will be Echo, an "evolutionary robot programmed with a rapidly adapting artificial intelligence".

Overwatch's 32nd hero has been revealed, an omnic named Echo.

But this isn't even close to the first time we've seen Echo, with the Overwatch community speculating about Echo's arrival for years now - though the assumption was generally that they would be named Athena.

TimTheTatman's livestream takes place tomorrow on his Twitch channel at 12pm CT.

This article is brought to you by StatBanana, the best Overwatch strategy tool. We also saw Echo in the announcement trailer for Overwatch 2, as part of the cavalry of Overwatch heroes Tracer's always banging on about.

This could mean she's a highly mobile Support, one who can deal out a fair amount of damage on her own in addition to helping out teammates.

Even though we've known about Echo for a while, it will still be exciting to see exactly what her abilities and ultimate are, how they work, and whether or not Tim will actually be able to win a match with her.
