Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato open up about their renewed friendship

Miley Cyrus started an Instagram livestream talk show as she stays home in quarantine and Demi Lovato appeared on the March 17 episode to discuss the current stress in the world and their rocky past.

Cyrus's performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2013 became one of her best-known as she sang and danced in a fuzzy bodysuit and a set of latex underwear alongside Robin Thicke.

"I basically went through two or three years where I wouldn't wear shorts", Cyrus told Demi Lovato on her Bright Mind series on Instagram. "I stopped wearing skirts on stage, all this s-t because after the VMAs and I had on my cute little nude bodysuit, everyone started comparing me to a turkey and putting a turkey in my outfit", she said.

On Tuesday, Lovato appeared as the the guest on Cyrus's new Instagram show, Bright Minded: Live with Miley.

"I kind of made a vow to myself that when I get older I just wanna represent what I didn't have, and I want to be that for somebody", Lovato said, noting the lack of role models she had while being young in Hollywood. "I just needed something bigger than this industry because it just made me feel so bad about myself", she said. The gabfest was part of Cyrus' new afternoon talk show called "Bright Minded: Live with Miley", which streams on the "Malibu" singer's Instagram. "I wish I could've been there, but I didn't know and I feel like we've gone through like times where we're closer and then distant - and that's fine, that's what friends do".

She explained: "We cannot talk forever and then some bulls### will go down, and I'll just know you're the person I want to reach out to". "In dark times, it's really important to reach towards those who are illuminated".

"You've always been a light in my life and that's why we connected at 14", Demi recalled. "But in reality, I was working out so much and eating such a strict diet that I wasn't confident", Demi explained.

"My whole objective with coming clean with everything I've been through is to help someone else", Lovato told Cyrus during their conversation. Cyrus them chimed in, making Lovato cackle by quipping, "Maybe we were just gay as fuck".

"I'm totally freaking out and I think my fans and followers will be doing the same".

"Even though I may seem very different, people may not see me as neutral as I feel. I still sometimes struggle with body dysmorphia, but if I can look in the mirror and say I'm grateful for the body that's gotten me through every day of my life, no matter what I've put it through, I'm grateful for the health and strength that I have today, that helps me stay grounded in my body and stop those negative body image thoughts".
