Liverpool has the most valuable squad in Europe

Liverpool appear set to reign supreme over the Premier League - and now also top the standings in Europe too, according to the latest research from CIES Football Observatory.

Current league leaders Liverpool, who's title chances have come under the microscope this week due to the COVID-19 pandemic leads the charts with a staggering squad value of €1.4 billion.

Jurgen Klopp possesses the most valuable squad in the transfer market across the continent's top-five leagues, the organisation states, ahead of fellow Premier League side Manchester City.

Liverpool, leading the Premier League by a record 25 points, have assembled an awesome squad of players, led by Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In fourth place is real Madrid (1.1 billion), and the fifth - another English club "Chelsea" (1,008 billion).

They required two victories from their remaining nine encounters to clinch their first top-flight title in 30 years.

The rest of the top 10 is comprised of Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A champions Juventus.

The rankings are based on the value of players and use a number of variables including age, performances, career progression and contract duration.

While Crystal Palace is the lowest-ranked English club with a squad value of £173m, Bundesliga's SC Paderborn sit at the bottom of the table with mere £34m.

Paris St-Germain's World Cup winning forward Kylian Mbappe, 21, has the highest transfer value at more than £227m.
