Ousmane Dembele striker suffers from a setback

Quique Setien was looking forward to the return of Ousmane Dembele, but the France global has suffered a setback in training.

Dembele suffered the same injury to his left leg in September 2017, shortly after joining the club from Borussia Dortmund and was out of action for four months, meaning he is unlikely to return to action before the start of May at the earliest.

The French worldwide pulled out of Monday's training session earlier than expected, with no explanation given at the time by head coach Quique Setien.

The winger has played just 31.4 per cent of the total minutes that would have been available to him across all competitions had he not suffered any injuries at Barca.

It places further pressure on Quique Setien's squad with Luis Suarez already out for a prolonged period as he prepares to undergo surgery on a knee problem. The club sold Carles Perez to Roma over the winter window. Francisco Trincao will not arrive from Braga in a €31m switch until the end of the campaign.

No timetable has been placed on Dembele's recovery, but the news of his latest set-back could scarcely have come at a worse time for Barca.

In the current season, he scored a goal in nine appearances. The French striker joined the team in mid-January.

Although Ansu Fati notched a double in the 2-1 victory over Levante on Sunday, it has been reported Barca will look to sign a free agent from outside Spain as emergency cover.
