Shannen Doherty says breast cancer is back: 'I'm stage 4'

She said she chose to come forward with her diagnosis because legal documents, which mention her cancer, will soon be made public ahead of the trial.

The news comes just five years after the Beverly Hills, 90210 star went into remission from breast cancer.

She added that she wanted to prove that people who had been diagnosed with Stage IV cancer "still have some living to do".

The actress revealed that her cancer came back a year ago, so she was struggling with the disease throughout the entire time that she filmed BH90210.

Speaking about her previous cancer battle, she told People in August 2019, "I don't think you're ever on the other side (of cancer)". It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways. "It was so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who is seemingly healthy to go first. Who else besides me deserves this?' None of us do". "None of us do".

Doherty did not share a specific date for her new diagnosis, but revealed she worked on the "BH 90210" reboot a year ago amid her health struggles.

"Why wasn't it me?"

Doherty returned to her Beverly Hills, 90210 roots in last year's reboot, BH90210, where she played an "extremely heightened" version of herself. "It was really shocking". "And the least I could do to honor him was to do that show". "I still haven't done enough in my opinion".

Doherty revealed she had been given her diagnosis when Luke Perry, her Beverly Hills 90210 co-star, died in February past year. "We were able to talk about Luke in a way that was very positive and uplifting and sort of remember a lot of great moments".

Shannen Doherty says her breast cancer has returned and is now stage 4.

"I thought. people can look at that and say, 'Oh my God, yeah". I want it to be real and authentic and I want to control the narrative. "I don't want it to be twisted; I don't want it to be a court document".

"I really took good care of myself, and I came out of it in as good of condition I think somebody [in my situation] could be in", said Doherty. "I want people to know from me".

Doherty began her career as a child star, having starred in the likes of Little House on the Prairie and Western series Father Murphy in her youth. I'm pretty mom is a ridiculously strong, courageous human being. "So is my husband, but I worry about him".

Despite being candid on social media about her breast cancer battle previously, the Charmed alum didn't have plans to go public with this news just yet.
