Terrell Owens won’t be in the XFL draft pool

The Brewer Group CEO Jack Brewer, former National Football League running back Clinton Portis and former National Football League wide receiver Ron Johnson on the comeback of the XFL.

ProFootballTalk.com, citing a memo sent by the league to player agents, reported Friday that average salaries for the 2020 season will come out to $55,000.

That's according to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, who reported Friday that the XFL intends to make any players drafted and retained by a team for the 2020 season full-time employees as of December 4. That figure includes bonuses for being on an active roster and winning games.

The XFL draft has five player pools with hundreds of eligible players.

Salaries in the defunct Alliance of American Football, which lasted less than a season, were higher.

WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon is relaunching the XFL as the latest attempt at a spring professional football league. For its 2001 season, the original XFL paid its players a base salary of $45,000 for a 10-game season, with slight variations based on position. It will feature 90 seconds between picks and will populate eight teams with 71 players apiece.
