Raise money for charity with Steam’s International Day of the Girl sale

This year's theme is "GirlForce: Unscripted and unstoppable", in which achievements by, with and for girls are celebrated. Girls Not Brides mobilises over 1,300 member organisations in more than 100 countries to raise awareness of child marriage, and offers governments and civil society organisations strategies to end it. It recognises the achievements of girls in breaking stereotypes and barriers since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (UNFPA), a global commitment to achieving equality, development and peace for women worldwide.

On the occasion of International Day of Girl, UNICEF, the child rights body, tweeted, "Brave, Powerful, Bold, Innovative, Resilient, Courageous, Strong, Unscripted, Unstoppable".

Being unable to get an education, being made to marry while you're still a child, or simply not being given as many chances at things as boys - these are just some of the difficulties girls can face.

"Today, more young girls are stepping up and amplifying their voices to demand that their governments make deliberate efforts to provide them [youth] with the future they want".

Today on #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild we are launching our awareness programme on rights of the Girl Child through mobile Truck Art messaging enabled by Samar Minallah's unbelievable Truck Art.

The idea of a dedicated day for the girl child is to work to reinforce girls' rights to a safe childhood, to decide for themselves, and to education and skills.

International Day of the Girl was first celebrated in 2012 and the United Nations says it is a day to "recognise girls' rights and the unique challenges they face across the world". It's time for us all to join forces to help girls stay in school, and out of child marriage.
