New injury worry for Chelsea star Kante

N'Golo Kanté was left out of France's squad which faced Iceland on Friday after complaining about an injury ahead of kick-off, but France manager Didier Deschamps insists the decision was only a precaution.

The Chelsea midfielder had been named in the starting XI and was all set to play in the Euro 2020 qualifying match before suffering a muscle strain.

"He felt a pain in his adductor muscle", Deschamps said, quoted by Goal.

"He had a feeling where he did not feel comfortable to play".

However, Kante was forced to withdraw after pulling up with a hamstring problem in the warm-up and was replaced by Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko.

"I knew Moussa [Sissoko] would be ready".

Kante's absence would be a concern for Deschamps as he's already missing Kylian Mbappe, Hugo Lloris and Ousmane Dembele.

The former Leicester dynamo has struggled all season with injuries, playing just three times in the Premier League this term.

Despite admitting that Kante's injury is not "too serious", the coach said he is not certain that the midfielder will feature in the clash against Turkey on October 15.

Kante has featured in only half of Chelsea's eight Premier League matches so far this season.

Chelsea will be hoping to have Kante fit for their next game - a home clash against Newcastle on October 19.
