Matt Lauer rape allegation revealed in Ronan Farrow’s ‘Catch and Kill’ book

On Wednesday, Kotb said she felt like she was reliving the day she and Guthrie first announced the news of Lauer's termination.

"Today" show host Savannah Guthrie said NBC staffers are "disturbed to our core" over allegations that Matt Lauer raped a female colleague.

Back in New York City, Nevils had more sexual encounters with Lauer.

While Nevils said she "had no reason to suspect Lauer would be anything but friendly based on prior experience", she told Farrow that when she returned, she found him in his boxers and T-shirt, and he pushed her on the bed and asked if she likes anal sex, Variety's report claims. Nevils maintains this specific encounter was nonconsensual as she was both too drunk to consent and repeatedly told him she did not want to have anal sex. Farrow writes, "She told me she stopped saying no, but wept silently into a pillow" and bled for days afterward.

CBS News reached out overnight to representatives for Lauer, Oppenheim, and Lack, and have not heard back. "She told Farrow, "'This is what I blame myself most for".

Another source tells us that the decision to fire Lauer was made late Tuesday night by NBC News chairman Andy Lack. Nevils did and Lauer was sacked soon after for "inappropriate workplace behavior". Nevils described these encounters as "completely transactional" and said she was scared at the time over the control Lauer had over her career. "It was not a relationship", she said. In Catch and Kill, Ronan writes that Brooke's "work life became torture" because she was sitting in meetings with people who were "loyal to Lauer" and doubted her claims. "Our hearts break again for our colleague". IN 2018, she went on medical league, and was eventually paid "seven figures".

Nevils did, and her attorney said that NBC took swift action at that point. Some of what has been said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me embarrassed and ashamed. In fewer than than 35 hours, NBC investigated and removed Mr. Lauer.

Lauer was famously and abruptly fired by NBC in November 2017, in the wake of allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior exhibited throughout 2014. "I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly".

Farrow reveals that the Weinstein story forced NBC to deal with an allegation of rape from a Lauer colleague that the network had known about for some time.

Nevils has not responded to a request for further comment from CNN. The book suggests that several NBC executives were dismissive of Nevils claims when they first heard about them, and that "The network proposed a script she would have to read, suggesting that she had left to pursue other endeavors, that she was treated well, and that NBC News was a positive example of sexual harassment".

"We have a commitment to keep you informed, and we will continue to do that", said Guthrie. "We are absolutely committed to making this a reality - there can be no exception".
