Barcelona's Turan sentenced for nightclub fight

Former Atletico Madrid and Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan, who now plays for Istanbul Basaksehir, has received a suspended jail sentence of two years, eight months and 15 days after being found guilty of willful injury, carrying an unlicensed firearm and shooting in an urban area.

Turan, 32, who is now on loan with Super Lig side Istanbul Basaksehir was involved in a fight with Turkish pop star Berkay Sahin in a nightclub a year ago, leaving the singer with a broken nose.

The Turkish ace, now on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir, was involved in a brawl with a Turkish singer called Berkay Sahin on October 10, 2018.

Basaksehir said they had fined the 31-year-old 2.5 million Turkish lira (£350,648) for the incident.

It's reported that Sahin was at the night club with his spouse Ozlem Ada Sahin when the incident occurred in October, with Turan alleged to have made suggestive remarks to the woman.

He was taken to hospital for surgery in a nearby hospital where Turan later showed up reportedly asking to be forgiven. Turan appeared at the hospital with a gun, allegedly begging for forgiveness. Turan later arrived at the hospital with a gun which he fired at the ground, causing panic.

Writing on Instagram on Wednesday, Turan apologised to his club and his family for his "momentary mistake".

"I learned lessons from these events", the midfielder explained in his statement. However, he failed to make a major impact at the Camp Nou and was shipped out on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir in 2018.

But he announced his worldwide retirement in 2017 after he allegedly abused a journalist on the national team's plane.
