Gold Wireless Headset Announced for PS4 and PS VR

Sony has today announced the third iteration of its official Wireless Headset in the Gold Wireless Headset. The main new feature seems to be a slightly updated design, and a giant "NEW" on the front of the box, lest you forget for a few minutes that this was in fact an item fresh off the production line.

The new Gold Wireless Headset has a more sleek appearance, with a thinner headband that drops the bright blue inside, and "refined" over-ear cushions which PlayStation promises will make long gaming sessions more comfortable. The headset output high-quality 7.1 virtual surround sound within compatible games, and the augmented noise-cancelling microphones make communicating with friends real easy.

Sony has yet to confirm price or release date, but says that the new gold wireless headset is coming soon to Europe. You still had a simple USB dongle to transmit game and chat audio wirelessly, while the 3.5mm jack ensures that the headset can be used for PSVR or other audio sources (like an Xbox One, for example).

Still a relatively basic design, but undoubtedly a major improvement over the original Gold Wireless Headset, which looked like no-name hardware you'd buy at Best Buy for $50. I already own a fancier pair of headphones, but if I was looking for a budget-friendly replacement, I'd certainly consider the new Gold Wireless Headset.
