So any one still hanging with phones running the affected platforms, the only choice for them will be to upgrade to a newer device running iOS or Android. However, it later updated users that it extended the deadline for ending support to June 30, 2017, which was further postponed to December 31, 2017.

The company spoke about the hard decision but said it it was the "right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp".

Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number on the new device. Before that, support for Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7 and iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 were stopped by the company in December 2016.

The official blog post by WhatsApp with end-of-life dates mentions that users of the above mentioned platforms will not be able to use the application after the specified date that is not even a week from now.

There is now no option to transfer your chat history between platforms. Nokia S40 support will go on until December 31, 2018, while Android versions 2.3.7 and older will be able to use the service until February 1, 2020.

Numerous platforms had received an extended support such as Blackberry OS, and Nokia Symbian S60. Earlier this year, Whatsapp has already become unavailable on Nokia phones running Symbian S60, from June 30, 2017. One such feature is called PiP, enabling users to multitask while on a video call.

Users have seven minutes to delete the message after it's sent.

The main reason for pulling the plug is attributed to the fact that older smartphones won't provide features, capabilities and required processing power to work with all the features included with the latest versions.

The Windows 8.0 phone will no longer open the app in the new year. Now, a person in a group will get an option to message a particular member which other members can't see.
