Russell Westbrook Triple-Double Countdown

Russell Westbrook recorded his 41st triple-double of the season on Tuesday night to match Oscar Robertson's 55-year-old National Basketball Association record. Westbrook came into Tuesday needing just 11 rebounds and 29 assists to match that feat (if he plays all 82 games) and finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists in 27 minutes.

Westbrook had 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists at halftime to help Oklahoma City (44-33) take a 63-39 lead.

"He's making big plays", Thunder center Enes Kanter said.

The 12 points were the most Abrines has scored in a game since he had 13 in a March 3 loss at Phoenix.

The game was tied at 95-all until Doug McDermott connected on a 3-pointer, earning Westbrook his 10th assist, with 1:24 left. Giannis Antetokounmpo posted 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Bucks (40-38) shot 35.8 percent and lost their second straight.

After the Thunder's rout of the Bucks, Milwaukee guard Jason Terry was convinced who the victor should be. "I'm just truly honored to do it here, especially, in Oklahoma City", Westbrook said after the game, calling his season "a blessing".

A horde of Russ' critics always go back to his volume shooting or high turnovers when picking apart the potential MVP, and his history-tieing triple-double didn't feature any of that.

Cayley Mercer scored two goals and Shea Tiley recorded a shutout as Clarkson captured the NCAA women's hockey National Championship with a 3-0 win over Wisconsin Sunday. "I think it will get us even more prepared, even more locked-in, win or lose".

"(Westbrook) put a stamp on it tonight", Terry said.

For Oklahoma City, it's the beginning of a four-game road trip. The OKC Thunder are now sitting in sixth in the Western Conference.

As Westbrook walked off the court, the Oklahoma City Thunder faithful harmoniously showered him with MVP chants, but that doesn't matter.

The only drama in the second half was waiting for Westbrook to reach the record, which is something he never expected.

Westbrook got his 10th rebound and 10th assist six seconds apart. "That's something I can sit back and be thankful for players like him".

USA Today's Sam Amick, who is included in the selected media voting panel for this year's MVP race, has made a list of both Westbrook and Harden's basic and fancy statistics that could be considered when deciding who will be this season's victor.

And obviously, if Westbrook can notch one more triple-double, he can break Robertson's all-time single season record. The remaining three are against teams with losing records - the Knicks, Detroit and Dallas.Gasol connected on his third 3-popinter of the game midway through the third quarter, giving him 100 for the season.

IN had lost four in a row to leave their post-season hopes in jeopardy and found themselves 19 points down in the first half before rallying for a crucial victory.
