Priyam Garg to lead India as BCCI announce 15-member squad

Priyam Garg will hope to join Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand and Prithvi Shaw, the India Under-19 World Cup-winning captains over the years, when he leads the team at the 2020 edition in South Africa in January-February.

Priyam Garg (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Divyaansh Saxena, Dhruv Chand Jurel (vs & wk), Shashwat Rawat, Divyansh Joshi, Shubhang Hegde, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Singh, Kartik Tyagi, Atharva Ankolekar, Kumar Kushagra (wk), Sushant Mishra, Vidyadhar Patil. The colts will play all their matches in Bloemfontein. Atharva Ankolekar and Karnataka's Shubhang Hegde, who captained India U-19 during their 3-2 series win against Afghanistan, are the spin allrounders in the team.

The squad also features Mumbai's Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made waves scoring a double-century against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He hit a 74 within the remaining towards India B final month.

Tilak Varma, from Hyderabad, forced his way into the squad on the back of a solid Cooch Behar Trophy in 2018-19, scoring 779 runs in just six matches, including four hundreds and three half-centuries, averaging 86.56.

The squad was announced on Monday, a day after the national junior selection committee - headed by Aashish Kapoor - met at the BCCI headquarters here with Rahul Dravid - the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy - as a special invitee.
