Lin-Manuel Miranda Will Co-Chair 2020 Met Gala

As we prepare to enter into a new decade, the Met's annual fundraising event, or, more accurately, your-chance-to-act-as-a-fashion-critic-for-the-night-event, has revealed the theme for its latest exhibition will be called "About Time: Fashion and Duration". The milestone will be marked by new exhibits, public events and of course the highly anticipated Met Gala.

Meryl Streep is set to attend her first Met Gala in 2020.

The museum described its choice as a reflection on the ephemeral nature of fashion.

The gala launches the spring exhibit, which will run from May 7 through September 7.

"I wanted to do an exhibition focused on the collection, but not a traditional masterworks exhibition", Metropolitan Museum of Art curator Andrew Bolton told the outlet.

The exhibition will take attendees back in time, familiarizing them with the styles of the 1870s and taking them on a fashion journey through the 19th and 20th centuries to the present.

The exhibition will close with a section on the future of fashion to explore the topic of longevity and sustainability.

Some 160 pieces will feature in the exhibition, and some will offer a connection between eras or generations. Famed British stage designer Es Devlin is in charge of the show's design.

The Tony, Olivier, and Pulitzer victor will co-chair the 2020 Met Gala alongside Louis Vutton Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière, Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour, and Oscar winners (and fellow movie musical alums) Emma Stone and Meryl Streep. This year's theme, "Camp: Notes on Fashion", saw the fashionable flood the red carpet in an array of eccentric shapes and bold colors.
