IPL victor with Mumbai Indians arrested for match fixing in KPL 2019

Keeper-batsman and his Bellary teammate Kazi allegedly took money for slow batting in 2019 final CM Gautam, who captained Karnataka at one point and also turned up for three IPL teams, and his former Karnataka teammate Abrar Kazi were arrested yesterday for allegedly accepting money to spot-fix in the scandal-ridden Karnataka Premier League.

A senior police officer said that Bellary team captain CM Gautum and the player Abrar Kazi were arrested.

The two cricketers have been accused of receiving a total of ₹20 lakh to "bat slow" in the 2019 KPL final match between Bellary Tuskers and Hubli Tigers.

According to the CCB, they were also involved in fixing a second match. He had also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL), being a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Mumbai Indians (MI).

The arrest of the two comes a day another player Nishant Shekhawat was arrested for allegedly acting as an intermediary between bookies and players in the KPL. Shekawat, a native of Kota in Rajasthan, is a right-hand batsman and right-arm bowler.

Bengaluru's crime branch had the likes of Ali Asfak Thara, the owner of Belagavi Panthers; celebrity drummer Bhavesh Bafna under their radar since last month. He shifted to Goa this season.

Kazi, a bowling allrounder who also played under Gautam at some point, had a more stop-start career with Karnataka before moving onto Nagaland previous year and making three 150+ scores as a middle-order batsman.

Kazi, 30, has played 17 first-class matches.

"The CCB has made two important arrests in the KPL spot-fixing scandal", Sandeep Patil, the Joint Commissioner of Police, told ESPNcricinfo in a text message.

Both Gautham and Kazi had been named in their respective state squads for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament, scheduled to begin on Friday.

KPL franchise- Belagavi Panthers has been grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent times.
