Wild reach agreement with Kevin Fiala on two-year contract

Fiala comes at a fraction of Granlund's cost, combine that with his entering the final year of his contract and free agency looming on July 1st at the very least the Wild are in a much better financial position heading into 2019-20 season.

In 223 National Hockey League games, Fiala has 48 goals.

The 23-year-old had 13 goals and 39 points in 83 games last season with the Wild and Predators. He was a first round (11th overall) pick in the 2014 NHL Draft when Paul Fenton was Nashville's assistant GM. It was imperative that Fiala not miss camp has he gears up for what could be his coming out party.

New Wild GM, Bill Guerin, had stated that the Wild made a fair offer to Fiala and that the ball was in his court to accept it and be ready for camp.

Ranking the Wild this high might just be my model's hottest take, one that I can see the argument for though still question myself. "For Kevin's sake and our sake, I hope he's there, I really do". Fenton traded for him as Wild GM, and was sacked in July. He's flashed that gamebreaking talent, now it's time for him to put it all together and become a more consistent player. If he does that the Wild will have a good shot of getting back into the postseason.
