Neymar's father on failed Barcelona move: "We fought for his exit"

With Neymar's potential transfer to Barcelona dominating the summer headlines, captain Lionel Messi feels the club could have done a little more to bring the Brazilian back.

Paul Pogba reportedly agreed a staggering £429,000-a-week deal with Paris Saint-Germain before deadline day but the move fell through because Neymar's proposed return to Barcelona didn't materialise.

However, in the end, the clubs were not able to agree terms for the transfer, and Neymar will now have to spend at least another four months in Paris.

His father, Neymar Sr, who is also his agent, has now insisted that the fact that there is no release clause in his son's PSG contract made the move very tricky. Initially, Barcelona was the only side interested in his signature, however, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez chose to enter the race for Neymar to make things interesting.

"We fought to find an agreement".

"A Brazilian just wants to be where he is happy and he was very happy at Barcelona".

The agent also suggested that Neymar's old team-mates at Barca had asked him to return in the summer.

"When his friends asked him if he want to go back, it upset him".

"He is one of the best players in the world and at the image level and sponsors we would have taken a leap that would have given us stability".

The 27-year-old, however, made his first appearance of the campaign for Brazil during the worldwide break. Have your say in the comments section below.
