Michael Schumacher "conscious" after treatment in Paris

Michael Schumacher is reportedly "conscious" after undergoing stem-cell treatment in Paris.

The seven-time champion was admitted to the Georges-Pompidou hospital, reported the AFP news agency, citing Le Parisien, a French newspaper. They said: "He is in my area". 'I can assure you he's conscious, ' said a female member of staff in the cardiology unit.

For even people who do not follow the sport, Michael Schumacher is certainly a name which becomes nearly synonymous with Formula 1.

Schumacher sustained a severe brain injury in late December 2013, when he was mountain skiing in the resort of Meribel in the French Alps. He has been recovering at his family home in Lausanne ever since.

Since the accident, the Schumacher family has kept his health status shrouded in secrecy which has fuelled much speculation on his condition.

"I am constantly in touch with Corinna, and I totally agree with their decision", he said, referring to Schumacher's wife, according to the Mail.

A nurse told Le Parisien that he might be showing signs of recovery, The Telegraph reported.

The nurse continued to tell reporters that this is the second time that Schumacher has attended this hospital to receive stem cell treatment.

"You can be sure that he is in the very best of hands and that we are doing everything humanly possible to help him".

"There are millions of people out there who have a genuine affection for Michael, and that's not just his fans in Germany or fans of Mercedes Benz".

Stem cell treatment is often sought out by the families of individuals who have undergone a traumatic brain injury as a way to restore neuroplasticity and help to promote the fix of otherwise permanent damage. Reports indicate that Schumacher had made several previous visits to the facility in 2019 and will return home to Switzerland following the completion of his visit later this week.
