Injured Vincent Kompany to miss his own testimonial match

Vincent Kompany is to miss his own testimonial due to a hamstring problem.

Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed plans to move to Anderlecht after his days at Man City end.

"At the unveiling, the Chairman (Khaldoon Al-Mubarak) revealed to Vincent that the Club has also begun the process of commissioning a sculpture to publicly recognize and celebrate his achievements and contributions to Manchester City".

The 33-year-old, who has endured a tough start to life as Anderlecht player-coach, has not featured since hobbling out of a 1-0 defeat to Genk on 23 August.

Speaking ahead of the game Kompany said: "Unfortunately, I won't be starting tonight or playing". "It is typical of me". I have a slight hamstring injury and can't risk it.

However, the Belgian worldwide played down his frustration at missing out with the most important goal raising funds for charity.

The match will feature two star-studded line-ups with the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Thierry Henry, Paul Scholes and Robin van Persie all signed up.

'My goal was to put the fastest winger I could find on Gary Neville's side!

He said: "We are specifically dealing with homelessness in Greater Manchester". You can't have a successful project without Manchester United involved.

With Aymeric Laporte now facing a lengthy spell out injured, the lack of cover could be exposed but Kompany is confident Pep Guardiola's team will cope. These are big players and the team has never seemed to collapse.

He continued: "There are still plenty of awesome players to be watching and it's about the celebration and to say goodbye - I don't need to be on the pitch as such". Anyone better in the world, they have the responsibility to get to improve the team, and so nobody gives you the gift of staying at City for 11 years, you have to earn it for 11 years. "Pep is way too aware of this danger to let it happen".
