David De Gea close to signing new Man United deal

According to English newspaper "The Guardian", David De Gea is closer to signing a new deal at Manchester United. However, recent reports have stated that an agreement over a contract extension is close.

According to the Guardian, the Spanish global is finally on the verge of agreeing a new contract with the Mancunian giants.

However, United insiders have revealed De Gea still retains the absolute backing of his manager and the pair have spoken regularly since the new campaign got underway. Supporters could understand De Gea taking his time over a major contract covering his peak years and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be assured about the long-term future of a crucial position. The Bianconeri were reportedly planning to open talks with the Spanish global in January to explore the possibility of a summer transfer. The Red Devils were reportedly planning a swoop for Atletico Madrid custodian Jan Oblak in the next summer window, as a potential replacement for de Gea.

De Gea is said to be "on the verge of completing the details" over new terms that will see him earn £290 000-a-week, giving him pay parity with Paul Pogba.

There are growing concerns his continued contract stand-off with United could also be having an impact on his performances, with fears the Spaniard is ready to run down the rest of his deal and quit Old Trafford next summer on a free transfer. The length of the new deal, however, hasn't been specified in the report.

De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

The Red Devils have made a slow start to the new Premier League season.
