Conor McGregor Furiously Responds To Dustin Poirier's Call Out

Dustin Poirier has tabled any talk of retirement following his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC 242 main event last weekend, writing on social media that a rematch opposite UFC superstar Conor McGregor "makes sense".

Even with that being said, there wasn't even a second of that fight where Nurmagomedov was in any critical danger.

"Georges St-Pierre is a great guy, a great champion, a great athlete", Nurmagomedov said at the UFC 242 post-fight press conference in Abu Dhabi. He is very good example for young kids.

"I think me and Conor running it back makes a lot of sense at this point", Poirier tweeted this week.

"It doesn't matter about who, it just matters me getting back in there and being who I am, not a shell of myself". I want to fight those guys.

So what is stopping a Georges St-Pierre vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov UFC fight? It was a one-sided fight, with Nurmagomedov dominating every round, despite receiving a few hard shots in the second. The thing that might sink any possibility of the fight happening, however, is St-Pierre's insistence that he has no interest in fighting, winning the belt, and then guaranteeing to defend it.

My agent explained it to me like, maybe (Nurmagomedov) represents a significant investment for UFC. He's reached a different type of clientele, maybe in the Middle East, and (has) the Muslim world idolising him. Former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre repeatedly called for the Khabib fight but earlier this year White shot it down: "You can't come back out of retirement and hand pick fights that you want when you didn't even keep your word with me".
