Amid Controversy, Maine National Guard Confirms Stay At Trump Resort

The U.S. Air Force has ordered a review of all worldwide layover stays in the aftermath of a report that crew members stayed at President Donald Trump's luxury resort in Scotland at least twice in the past year, which raised ethics questions about whether the president has potentially profited from official government use of his private entities.

Trump had made a similar claim in a tweet he had posted earlier on Monday.

The spokesperson says a KC-135 aircraft landed at Glasgow Prestwick Airport in September of previous year after about a two-month deployment at a USA air base in Qatar, and then overnighted at Trump's Turnberry resort about 30 miles away. Articles appear on euronews.com for a limited time.

Mr Cummings is also concerned about Prestwick Airport, looking into purchase orders for fuel totalling $11m (€9.9m) and reports that the airport offered cut-rate rooms for select passengers and crew, as well as free rounds of golf at Turnberry to visiting U.S. military and civilian air crews.

Politico went on to provide an update on the Democrat-controlled House Oversight Committee's investigation into the "unusual stay - both en route to the Middle East and on the way back - at the luxury waterside resort".

He added the airport had been used by the military "for many decades" for stopovers and refuelling. "I think that it was a suggestion", Short told reporters during the trip.

"The Committee does not believe that USA taxpayer funds should be used to personally enrich President Trump, his family, and his companies", Oversight chairman, Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, wrote last Friday.

The US constitution bars government officials, including the president, from receiving financial benefits known as emoluments from foreign or domestic governments, without Congress approval. "Every time you find a person landing in an airplane within 500 miles of something I own - Mike Pence, as an example - his family lives in, he actually told me he stayed there many years ago".

A U.S. congressional committee is investigating Mr Trump for a potential conflict of interest over the matter.

The deal with the US Defence Logistics Agency (DLA), which manages the global supply chain for the US Army, Air Force, and Navy, is by far the airport's single biggest revenue stream.

Beginning in 2015, the U.S. Air Force contracted with Prestwick Airport in Glasgow, Scotland, to be one of the dozen military and civilian airfields in Europe where aircraft could refuel.

The controversy over military personnel accommodations at Trump properties comes after Vice President Mike Pence's recent decision to stay at Trump's resort in Doonbeg, Ireland - hours away from his scheduled events in Dublin - led Democrats on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees to demand documents about how the decision was made. Turnberry is only booked if other hotels are unavailable or customers specifically request it.

The Air Power is reviewing how crews on global hasten snatch airports and hotels after one crew recently spent an night time at a Trump resort in Scotland.

Congressional investigators have threatened to subpoena the Trump Administration over documents related to military lodging at the Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.
