Ciara, Russell Wilson & Macklemore Become Part-Owners Of MLS Team

Seahawks star Wilson, along with his wife Ciara and various other prominent members of the Seattle community, joined the Sounders ownership group on Wednesday (AEST).

"Football. Fútbol. We Love them both!" the Seattle Seahawks quarterback tweeted Tuesday morning, along with a photo of himself, Ciara and their children in Sounders gear. Myerson explained his focus on Seattle in a blog post "I would need to find a group of like-minded people, who were willing to invest in the Sounders as a pillar of the Seattle community, and were willing to make the bet that soccer would grow in popularity along with me".

The new partners join Sounders FC's existing ownership group consisting of Hanauer, actor Drew Carey and Jody Allen. "But we all are Sounders, and we believe in this club", Macklemore said in a video announcing the move.

"Seattle means so much to me and Ciara", Wilson said in a news release. "We want to bring the best soccer players in the world right here to Seattle".

Hollywood producer Joe Roth, one of the club's owners when it joined MLS in 2007, has left the organization. The team won the MLS Cup in 2016.

The Wilson family and Macklemore are joined by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, while current majority owner Adrian Hanauer is increasing his ownership stake.

The star-studded ownership group will help keep Sounders FC in Seattle and help build the club going forward.

Wilson has always been interested in sports ownership in the Pacific Northwest. The organization also announced that Hanauer Futbol - a group comprised of Hanauer, his wife, Lenore, and Paul Barry - has increased its overall investment in the Sounders. "That's what we're excited about for this game, this team, and what we can do in Seattle".
