Champions League Round-Up: Celtic, Porto & Basel Knocked Out as Ajax Scrape Through

Neil Lennon accused Celtic of conceding "crazy, suicidal" goals against CFR Cluj as they suffered a shock Champions League qualifying defeat.

Celtic went into the second leg confident of getting the job done in front of their home fans after securing a 1-1 draw in Romania.

Their fears were realised on 74 minutes, when Cluj levelled the second leg through a penalty, and although Ryan Christie restored the lead for Celtic shortly after, Neil Lennon's men could not hold on as their opponents scored a third, and then rounded off the misery for the Celtic Park outfit deep into injury time to seal a 4-3 win on the night, and a 5-4 success on aggregate.

It was a similar story for other big clubs across the continent as FC Porto, İstanbul Başakşehir and FC Basel also saw their journey in Europe's elite competition end during the qualifying rounds.

That being said, Celtic should be the favourites, with an away goal in the bank, and the firepower from middle to front, we should see Celtic score a couple of goals.

"In the first half, we were way too passive, way too slow with the tempo, so we gave them a bit of a razz at half-time and we got the right response going 2-1 up".

Lennon is keen to lift his side's spirits before they now prepare for a play-off to reach the Europa League group stages.

"We need a miracle to qualify". It's suicidal the goals we gave away.

"The morale in the squad is excellent at the moment and we are playing some nice football, but to go through in Glasgow, it's a miracle we need".

"The first goal, we got a warning before that, and we still didn't stop the cross and the guy's got across for a run". We've only ourselves to blame.

Celtic are back in action on Saturday against Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup.
